JOIN THE MOVEMENT!
If you've been following along on our social media, specifically our Instagram page, you have probably discovered by now that Mocha Books may be ending soon. The decision to even think of this as a possibility has been the toughest. As you may know, Mocha Books is ran by ONE. The orders, the emails, the website designing and updating, the social media presence, the reviews, and most recently, our store -- all one person! Our social media following has grown tremendously within the year. As a result of this, there is more demand for services, and/or resources. To manage all of this outside of ones personal life and day job can be quite draining.
Mocha Books was built from the ground up, literally. Everything has come out of pocket (aside from the $200 made from the 1st crowdfunder, major bust) and continues to. Profit from sales or partnerships have not been enough to keep Mocha Books afloat. If more is required of this business, more finances has to be invested and to be honest, it cannot keep coming from my pockets. Mocha Books began as a passion project. To support literacy in and out of our homes, to provide full - length mirrors for our youth, and to support our Indie authors. It has never been about profit, BUT to put back into our community and literature, there has to be something coming in to do that.
This last month has been many long nights of conflict. What do we do? Where do we go? Last week I posted via Instagram that Mocha Books would soon be closing as close as March 2020. The outpouring of love that was received virtually was overwhelming and beautiful and I thank you all for that. As I have stated before, we have been built from the ground up, no loans. I want to keep it that way. So, if WE want to keep Mocha Books open, WE need a plan. Back in July I published a blog post about maybe trying crowdfunding again. I know better this time, there's a better following this time, so why not? If Mocha Books will close, we will go down fighting!!
You support is appreciated and valued, but we also need FINANCIAL support to keep this train (hopefully a bus) going. The goal is to be accessible to our community and I believe that having a mobile bookstore will do that. If you're with me, please sign up for our mailing list to stay updated on the next step!
