He makes a wish, goes to sleep, and Dande the Lion comes to life! Unexpected adventures await Shiloh, as he meets unlikely creatures that share their magical experiences, to help him gain courage, confidence and overcome adversity.

      Overcoming Bullying

Helpful conversation starter tips and questions based on Shiloh and Dande the Lion:

Ask your child/student, why they think the other children teased Shiloh based on his “skin color?” Make this a teachable moment to talk about race and acceptance. This is not easy, but it’s necessary.

Give your child/student the opportunity to point to the illustrations and discuss what stands out to them and why.

Ask open-ended questions throughout the story, “how do you think you might feel if the other kids told you that you were different or didn’t belong?” What are some positive ways that you could respond?

Make predictions and real-world connections that are relatable. For example, when Shiloh goes to sleep what do you think he is going to dream about? Have you ever had a dream before
